What can we do to keep our hearts open in the face of great ecological grief?

Lifecairns are a way to remember, honour and lament lost species, both animals and plants, that have become extinct due to human interference. These communal gathering places also help to celebrate and build awareness of the crucial importance of biodiversity. They can also help to bring attention to threatened local species.

At a Life cairn, we can come to feel again how we are a part of Life on Earth, how we remain related to all species. Here we can mourn together and share ceremonies to give us strength.

In this free webinar, you will meet Andreas Kornevall, one of the first to initiate the idea and co-creator of the Lifecairn in Sussex, UK; Henrik Hallgren, who brought Life cairns to Sweden and built the Lodyn one in Stockholm; and Zara Waldebäck, part of the Livsröse Syd association (Lifecairn South) who have been tending a cairn in southern Sweden.

Together they will share their experiences and visions, and bring inspiration so more Life cairns can be built across the world. They will talk about what Life cairns are, why they are created and how to work with them in different ceremonial ways. They will also touch on how ceremony can make a difference and how it can change us in a way beyond factual knowing.

The Life cairn as public memorial is usually built by stones and rocks, and remain over time. Two special dates every year are 22 May: Global Biodiversity Day, and 30 Nov: Lost Species Day. At the end the session there will be information about how to make Life cairns and ways to engange with them, with an opportunity to ask questions.
